The Alaska Rainforest Campaign (ARC)
The Alaska Rainforest Campaign is a coalition of roughly 25 groups across the nation, including the Sierra Club, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Audubon, and other large national organizations. SCS is part of the ARC Steering Committee, and we work daily with the ARC office in Washington, D.C. Our primary contribution to ARC is providing regular status updates on all agency planning documents. Our data on activities occurring in the Tongass enables ARC to bring to Congress and the national media the latest information about projects that threaten the region. The Alaska Coalition
The Alaska Coalition is a coalition of over 700 conservation, sporting, labor, and religious groups working together to protect Alaska's wild public land. They focus on both of Alaska's rainforests, the Tongass and Chugach, as well as Arctic and other issues. SCS is a member of the Coaltion. Click here to visit the Alaska Coalition website.
Southeast Alaska Conservation Council (SEACC)
Sitka Conservation Society helped found SEACC thirty years ago to be a regional umbrella group, and is now one of their 17 member organizations. As the two primary conservation organizations located in the Tongass, SCS and SEACC provide the on-the-ground eyes and ears for the numerous national organizations working to protect the region. Earthjustice
SCS is one of roughly five organizations that challenges agency projects in court for Tongass issues, and Earthjustice represents us with few exceptions. We provide to Earthjustice much of the technical project information and maps used to build their cases. Click here to visit the Earthjustice website.
