The Backwoods and Waters series is a mix of wintertime lectures and summer boat trips to some of the most ecologically interesting and important places on the Tongass. It is an opportunity for Sitkans to learn about the natural history of their own home and abroad.
In a usual summer, SCS hosts five boat trips on Allen Marine sightseeing catamarans, with an onboard expert speaker to talk about any number of topics from whales to salmon to past volcanic activity. The winter series features monthly lectures about the natural history of Southeast Alaska, often drawing capacity crowds at the University of Alaska Southeast.
Check back in the spring for the most current schedule for summer boat cruises.
