Sitka Salmon Tours
Wild Alaskan salmon are the lifeblood of Sitka’s culture and the backbone of its economy. A summer program of the Sitka Conservation Society, Sitka Salmon Tours provides an in-depth look on the path salmon take from the stream to the plate. The daily tours vary depending on what is happening with the fishery and whether salmon are running in the streams around town. Most tours include a stop in a boat harbor to learn more about fishing boats and the salmon fishery, and, depending on the day, the tour may include a stop at a local fish processing plant, a visit to a salmon stream, or a tour of the Sitka Sound Science Center hatchery. Regardless which path the tour takes, participants will get a new understanding of the importance of salmon to our way of life in Sitka.
